Housing

One of Sparta’s major achievements has been a joint venture with the local government where 300 RDP houses were completed for its staff and other members of the local community. Workers who resided on the Marquard farm were helped to obtain houses in Marquard town. This enabled them to own a property and not be beholden to their employer for a place to stay.

Social responsibility

• The Sparta Group makes a number of school and tertiary education bursaries available every year for children of employees and other successful candidates. Through this initiative, many children in the community have been given the chance of a better life.
• We also make sizeable donations to the local schools in Marquard town and the Moemaneng township where most of the staff members’ children attend school. The Moemaneng crèche is located in a building that we have made available, maintain, and for which we pay the utilities bill.
• Various ad hoc monetary and product donations are made each year. These include sponsorship of police initiatives in the community, the “Kids Drug Awareness Project”, and organisations supporting the elderly, abandoned children and the mentally disabled.
• The Group has an annual sports day which is a fundraising event. This money is used to support various community projects and is the main sponsor of the Morntania football club in Moemaneng township.
