Environmental impact
Feedlot
- A full environmental study impact was commissioned and completed in 2007. This was approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
- No run-off water from the feedlot ever enters the natural water system. This includes the underground water system. An intricate system of evaporation ponds is used to purify the water. In any feedlot dust is a major pollutant. The purified water is used for dust control.
- The ground water is tested regularly.
- Manure is used as an organic fertilizer on the fields and pastures.
- Refuse: medicine bottles are collected by a waste disposal company. Other refuse is sent to the municipal dump and not buried on the farm.
