Our people

The Sparta Group employs approximately 1 200 people. We spend time and resources on our staff as we regard them as our core asset. The group is family owned and operated and family values play a strong role.

Training

Both in-house and external training are done on a continuous basis, with regular training or education in the following fields:

• HIV/AIDS awareness
• First-aid training
• Computer training
• LP gas system installation
• Plumbing
• Bricklaying
• Diesel mechanics
• Health and safety
• Basic business principles

Medical care

• We provide medical care to our staff through clinics situated at the feedlot operation in Marquard and at the plant in Welkom. These clinics are serviced by full-time nursing staff and part-time doctors.
• Aids education programmes, including free voluntary testing, are run on a regular basis. As a result, many HIV-positive individuals have gained access to anti-retroviral medication.
• The company sets aside an annual budget for private tuberculosis testing.
