Giving back is at the core of Sparta’s culture, as personified in our motto, CARE – Consideration, Accountability, Responsibility and Excellence – something every Spartan is trying to live up to in everything we do.

Each year Sparta hosts a charity fundraising day in aid of a cause very close to our hearts: the Mama Sophia’s Centre for individuals living with disabilities, based in Marquard. The centre provides a safe environment and stimulating curriculum for children living with moderate to severe mental and physical disabilities. Most of the parents cannot afford the minimal school fees and transport costs required for the children to attend the school. The generous donations (monetary or otherwise) from Sparta and its partners make it possible for the school to continue with their good work.

The event is held in the small town of Marquard in the Free State – the home of Sparta Beef. As in the past, a host of sporting events such as golf, fishing, cycling and polo form the backbone of the event, with an increasing number of Sparta’s business partners, staff and members of the local community eagerly joining in the activities each year.

The highlight of the event is the gala dinner with excellent live entertainment by local Free State musicians. On the menu, as always, is top-class Sparta Beef prepared by local chefs which have guests returning year after year. The evening kicks off with a prizegiving ceremony for the winners of the individual sporting events with top-quality prizes sponsored by Sparta’s business partners. This is followed by an auction of collector’s items in aid of their own charities.

The Sparta Charity Fundraising Day is held annually on the last Friday and Saturday in February.
